DEEP SEA FISHING
With over sever moths of billfish season, every year fishing off the Punta Cana shore on the east coast of the Dominican Republic is regarded as one of the top five of the world’ best billfish area. Likewise, Punta Cana is hardly matched by any other destination for its white marlin season when the dashing creature of the ocean come close to the coast, just 2-10 nautical miles offshore and in big numbers. White marlin season is from March to July, blue marlin season is from July to September. The east coast waters switch from somewhat rouge in summer to calm at the end of October, when smaller vessels are used to fish light tackle on dorados, wahoo, maybe sailfish or anything on the fly too. The area’s main tournament is the blue marlin Cabeza de Toro international, when around 30 yachts travel over from Puerto Rico for weekend competition with Dominican sports fishermen. May, June, July, August and September are the best months for catching the marlins. Make’s marina fishing charters, tel: 809-729-5164 based at the Cabeza de Toro club Nautico facility with its English-speaking crew, offering catch and release fishing trips all-year-round. If you decide to keep the catch, several beach restaurants will serve it to you for dinner, for a fee.
